A MOMENT WITH MASTER MATHIS:
Spring break is over and it’s time to get back to serious training. Remember testing is but a few weeks away, so train hard and expect the very best from yourself every time you step onto the mat. You are your best instructor. Mr. Crosby, Mr. Barebo and I can only take you so far; it is up to you to reach deep down inside and become the very best you can. And you can. I know. I have watched each and every one of you train. I have seen you fall when you tried a new kick, only to get up, dust yourself off, and try again and again until you finally get it. I have seen the determination in your eyes when you have been faced with learning a new form or weapon. But, not once did I see you quit, never! You persevered and you overcame every obstacle. And that is why I know each of you will become the very best you can at whatever you do.
AMAI held its third competition on March 25th in Destin, and what a success. Congratulations to everyone who competed. It takes confidence and determination to stand up and perform in front of, not only the judges, but the spectators as well. But as Emerson once said, “always do what you are afraid to do.” Through confronting your fears you are able to increase your comfort zone and thus improve your potential.
This month I am challenging everyone to stretch hard and achieve their maximum flexibility. That’s right, April is our “Split Club Challenge” month! Those who reach the full splits by the deadline date will be able to attend a Banana Split party on April 29th! So don’t wait, start stretching today! Do your best and good luck!
During testing this past month, I’m sure you witnessed our six new Junior Leaders testing for their Red/White/Blue collars. They did an outstanding job and truly demonstrated their personal confidence and leadership skills. Congratulations to the following Junior Leaders:
Logan Goodson Emily McGaughy
Blake Harp Meagan Hindel
Rachyl Sutton Jack Fite
I would like to conclude by recognizing the outstanding Junior Leaders for February. Congratulations to Sam Sowell, Dominique Dameron, Kendra Towner, and Rachyl Sutton. Their extra effort in all three categories of physical, mental, and leadership training earned them the Excellent Award! Great Job!
